“Don’t forget to love yourself.” -Soren Kierkegaard
As a certified Focusing Oriented Psychotherapist and supervisor, in practice since 1989, focusing (www.focusing.org) is central to all I do. My specialties include the treatment of recent and early-childhood trauma, issues of creativity, depression, anxiety, and relationships. I am also a certified EMDR practitioner. My colleague and focusing partner Susan Rudnick and I specialize together in focusing oriented approaches to sleep-related problems. I am a faculty member and supervisor for the Focusing Oriented Relational Psychotherapy Program. My work as a visual artist has appeared in a number of venues.
This blog is about my experience of beauty as it weaves within and integrates my two passions: psychotherapy and art. Recently, I was inspired to learn my Enneagram number (Don Riso has defined the Enneagram as “a geometric figure that delineates the nine basic personality types of human nature and their complex interrelationships.”). I found a website offering helpful questionnaires and completed two of them.
Though I have been told that we each have just one primary Enneagram number, each of the two questionnaires I took gave me different numbers. The first number indicated that I must surely be in the helping professions, and the second number indicated that I must surely be an artist. No surprise there! This blog is about one thread that runs through and integrates both aspects of my personality and life: beauty.
I invite you to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any comments or questions, have something you would like to add, or an interest in a psychotherapy consultation or supervision with me.
